Hospice Hero Awards

This year, we honor two very special people who embody an important part of Hospice care, volunteerism. Mary Lou Marks and Donna Pope have more than 30 years combined in volunteer service. In their specially trained role as Hospice Volunteers, they have walked alongside patients, family members and staff providing support, respite, and assistance with daily tasks. They’ve done so with a level of dedication and compassion that has helped distinguish Hospice of North Ottawa Community throughout the region. We are honored and privileged to present them with the 2017 Hospice Hero Award.

About Hospice of North Ottawa Community

Thirty-five years ago, a new and emerging service in the field of medicine was brought to Grand Haven that specifically focused on end-of-life-care. A first-of-its-kind on the lakeshore, Hospice of North Ottawa Community embraced new approaches to help patients and families navigate the medically complex, emotionally challenging and often financially burdensome last days of life. Ours is the longest-standing Hospice service on the lakeshore, with a strong tradition of providing very personal and dignified care to loved ones in our community – regardless of setting, circumstance, or ability to pay. This service, more than any other within our system, relies on volunteer support and financial contributions from generous donors, like you. We are honored to steward your gift in keeping with Hospice of North Ottawa Community’s tradition of medical excellence and compassion.
